Genocide is being committed against the people of Artsakh today. The film “Aurora’s Sunrise” is a warning about the current situation, the film director Inna Sahakyan told Alpha News.

“I think the film has a humanitarian message; it is about human rights. We received several awards at human rights festivals that were important to us. The film also talks about women’s rights, because for the first time in the topic of genocide there is a female story and an example of a struggling woman,” Sahakyan noted.

According to her, the film also tells about historical injustice.

“The film is about the current situation. We receive invitations to show the film in embassies, I regret to note that history is simply repeating itself. A film about a genocide once committed is a warning about the current situation. Today, we see the same pattern in Artsakh: a genocide is being committed. The world is at war again, and people’s attention, as then, is riveted to other events,” she said.

According to her, the film is a serious opportunity to talk about what is happening in Artsakh and draw the attention of the whole world to the current situation.

“Aurora’s Sunrise” depicts the horrifying story of Aurora Mardiganian, a survivor of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Aurora was 14 and lived in a small town in the Ottoman Empire when the massacre began.

The film will be screened in theaters in North America.
