A ceremonial unveiling of a memorial plaque dedicated to the great Armenian poet Avetik Isahakyan took place in Venice. The event was held to mark the 150th anniversary of the writer’s birth. The plaque has been installed on a building at Dorsoduro 2266, where Isahakyan lived with his family from 1921 onward.

The memorial plaque was created by artist Hayk Asatryan. It features the Rialto Bridge, an image that inspired the poet’s lines, “I saw a beautiful girl on the Rialto Bridge…” as well as an ornament of the Yereruyk Temple, one of Isahakyan’s favorite architectural landmarks.

During his years in Venice, Isahakyan’s home was visited by prominent figures of Armenian culture, Martiros Saryan and Yeghishe Charents.
