“Azerbaijan screwed you over, and you screwed over our compatriots”: Vardevanyan to Civil Contract

Yesterday’s question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly, together with Nikol Pashinyan’s statements today, made it clear that amending the Constitution is not the only obstacle to signing the peace treaty. This was stated by Aram Vardevanyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, at a briefing with journalists in parliament.
“It turns out that even under these conditions, Azerbaijan is not ready to sign the peace treaty. When Pashinyan says they will still try to obtain guarantees that there will be no further demands, it means that no such guarantees exist at the moment,” Vardevanyan stressed.
Speaking about the authorities’ policy, the Deputy Speaker noted that the Civil Contract party often contradicts itself.
“We are saying that Azerbaijan has once again ‘screwed you over,’ and in the same way you have ‘screwed over’ our compatriots. When they say ‘defend peace,’ it means this peace must actually exist. But it turns out that it doesn’t. As for freight transportation, there is in fact no such freight transportation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The authorities are simply using political tricks,” the Deputy Speaker stressed.
