Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker accuses European Parliament of slander

Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova at the plenary session of the National Assembly accused the European Parliament of conducting a smear campaign against Baku, RIA Novosti reports.

“On October 24, another political action against Azerbaijan was organized in the European Parliament. A biased resolution was adopted against our country, built on slander, lies and fake information. It is regrettable that the European Parliament has become a tool in the hands of forces conducting a hostile and slanderous campaign against Azerbaijan,” she said.

According to Gafarova, such “unfair and biased reasons once again openly show the evil intentions of forces that cannot accept the restoration of historical justice and international law in the South Caucasus region.”

“I believe that with this resolution, the European Parliament not only demonstrates a biased attitude towards the historical and modern realities of our region but also challenges the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state,” she said.

On October 24, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on Azerbaijani authorities to release political prisoners. In addition, the European Parliament called for the EU and its member states to do their utmost to ensure that United Nations Climate Change conferences are not hosted in countries with poor human rights records.
