Baku and Yerevan seek to sign some interim document, but its effectiveness is doubtful — Andrey Areshev
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist and expert of the Strategic Culture Foundation Andrey Areshev commented on the prospect of signing a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku and Azerbaijani disinformation.
“It is obvious that Baku and Yerevan are striving to sign some interim paper that could be shortened in terms of those issues that really represent serious stumbling points. However, the question is how effective and efficient the future agreement will be, even if it is signed in the near future. Not everything depends on Baku and Yerevan, and there are many factors and circumstances that can have a negative impact on the negotiation process that we are witnessing, and that is largely secret despite all these statements. It is hidden from the public by 90–95%, and therefore we remain in the dark about various processes that may have an impact on the terms of signing and on the content of the document,” Areshev said.
Referring to Baku’s ongoing disinformation that the Armenian Armed Forces are allegedly opening fire in the direction of Azerbaijani positions, the expert noted that this is informational and propaganda pressure.
“As far as I understand, these reports are unconfirmed and can be considered in the context of informational and propaganda pressure. This is propaganda tactics, a strategy aimed at obtaining major concessions from the Armenian side, including through verbal threats,” Areshev noted.
