“Baku Initiative Group” at UN calls for “return” of Azerbaijanis to Armenia

The “Baku Initiative Group” has called on UN special rapporteurs to support the resettlement of Azerbaijanis in Armenia, describing it as the “return” of people from the so-called “Western Azerbaijan,” Azerbaijani media report.

The appeal was adopted on September 28 at the conference “The Right of Return and Decolonization” at UN headquarters in New York. Its authors also called for ensuring “protection of Azerbaijani cultural, religious and historical heritage” in Armenia.

Representatives of the group promoted the thesis at the conference that “Western Azerbaijanis” have a right of return, and called for the issue to be considered within UN bodies and international mechanisms.
