“Before our eyes, Armenia is getting drawn into an economic war against Russia, the consequences of which will be very severe for us:” Tsarukyan

With the active mediation of Pakistan, peace between Armenia’s friend and neighbor Iran and its good partner the United States seems to be becoming possible. This is of extraordinary importance for Armenia. So wrote Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the PAP, on social media.

“When I mention Pakistan among other countries in the context of a guaranteed peace, the authorities start insulting me. French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday called Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko after a long pause to discuss improved relations and other important matters. When I say that we can and should cooperate with Belarus and that Armenia can gain serious benefits on many fronts, the authorities call me an ‘oligarch and Belarusian spy.’

When I say that we must have normal, respectful working relations with political forces and all influential circles in Russia in order to solve our country’s problems and avoid senseless, harmful hostility, I get labeled a pro-Russian figure.

Today the entire world, starting with the United States, wishes to normalize relations with Russia in order to ensure its own security and the well-being of its peoples. Before our eyes, an economic war against Russia is unfolding in Armenia, the consequences of which will be indescribably severe for us. And it is our people who will suffer the most, ordinary people who build and earn through honest labor.

Finally, what do you want from this country, from this people? What further harm do you want to inflict after so many wars and losses? Where do you want to take our country with your vision of peace? For the sake of your petty political interests, what further dangers are you prepared to expose our people to?” wrote Tsarukyan.
