There are approximately 40,000 Armenians living in Brazil, many of whom moved there back in 1923. The people who settled here are mostly residents of Marash, deported from Western Armenia, Vardine Kalaydjian, a representative of the Armenian National Committee in Brazil, told Alpha News.

“We have only one Armenian school and a church that unites Armenians. Over the past 10-15 years, Reverend Narek Berberyan has been trying to gather Armenian youth at every opportunity and organize various events,” Kalaydjian said.

According to her, the community is working to strengthen ties between Armenia and Brazil.

“We are also striving for official recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Brazilian government. There is much work to be done in this direction,” she added.

Vardine Kalaydjian also noted that the Diaspora has always been and continues to be a pillar of support for Armenia.
