Court grants Bagrat Srbazаn’s lawsuit

The court has granted the lawsuit filed by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan against public figure Styopa Safaryan, determining the amount of compensation for moral damages caused by defamation.

Safaryan had repeatedly circulated recordings in which he attributed obscene phrases to the archbishop, phrases Srbazаn had never uttered. The voice in the recording saying the aforementioned expression is clearly not that of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan.

The court established the fact of defamation and set the compensation at 100,000 (one hundred thousand) drams, though the plaintiff had sought 3,000,000 (three million) drams.
