Movses Ghazaryan, political analyst, commented to Alpha News on relations between the leadership of Ukraine and the United States.

“The current crisis between Kyiv and Washington is, of course, caused by many factors. First, in many ways this crisis is intra-Western in general. We are dealing with different approaches to the Ukrainian settlement. There are, for example, the approaches of the United States to the Ukrainian settlement, and there are the approaches of Brussels. And, in fact, Kyiv reflects the approaches of Brussels, not of the United States. That is one point, and it is worth noting that it is also linked to certain European phobias, European fears that the United States and the Russian Federation could jointly work out some kind of roadmap for settling the conflict in Ukraine, one that would involve imposing certain rules of the game, that is, a certain format of settlement, on both Europe and Ukraine. And this, in the understanding of European and, generally speaking, Ukrainian experts, is a very dangerous and negative thing,” the expert said.

According to the newsroom’s interlocutor, the misunderstanding between Ukraine and the U.S. is linked to the different approaches of Western countries to strategic issues on the global agenda.

“The third important aspect: I think we should also keep in mind that this crisis could potentially cause some internal imbalance within the countries of the Western community, because in fact such crisis moments between the two capitals, Washington and Kyiv, are, after all, echoes of different strategic views on the development of the Western community. For example, Washington sees the most promising deployment of its policy to maintain general Western and American dominance as being in Asia. The European Union, and European experts, politicians and leaders, for their part, regard the containment of Russia as important. So these are, after all, different views and approaches. Essentially, they are even different paradigms of development, because this European point of view assumes following the logic of the Cold War era, when Moscow is a sort of reincarnation of the Red Empire, although, of course, there is no red and no empire on Russia’s side, whether in relation to Europe, to Asia, or even to American interests in very sensitive areas, including in Asia,” Ghazaryan concluded.
