Daniel Ioannisyan, head of the NGO Union of Informed Citizens, said that he had submitted a report to the Prosecutor’s Office concerning the case of the beating of the brother of Hayk Konjoryan, a member of the Civil Contract (CC) party.

“We submitted a report to the Prosecutor’s Office on grounds of hooliganism regarding public statements (made from a car, on the street) by Avet Konjoryan, allegedly of a sexual nature.

At the Union of Informed Citizens, we condemn any violence, but we also consider it unacceptable to shout insults of sexual nature on the street. The latter, like violence, is an act prohibited by the Criminal Code.

And since law enforcement has already dealt with the violence case, but not with the case of overt hooliganism (shouting insults), and since the brother of the alleged offender is a high-ranking official (and there is a risk that law enforcement may turn a blind eye to this), we submitted a report regarding the latter.

We must fight to ensure that law enforcement takes the same approach toward those who shout sexual insults on the street/in public places, regardless of the status of these individuals (or their close relatives),” he noted.
