Demonstration for release of Armenian prisoners was held in Copenhagen to include Armenians from southern Sweden – Anahit Avagyan
Armenians in Sweden and Denmark held a demonstration, urging the political leadership of Denmark to take immediate measures to prevent the violation of the rights of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan. Alpha News spoke with Anahit Avagyan, a member of the Armenian Scandinavian Union, on this topic.
“A demonstration in support of Armenian prisoners was organized outside the Danish parliament in Copenhagen. Before that, we had already undertaken efforts to return the prisoners, and this protest was part of those efforts. Denmark is very close to southern Sweden, and it would be more convenient if the protest took place in Copenhagen. In this way, Armenians in Sweden would also be able to join us. We also sent letters to members of parliament in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland calling for action to be taken to release the prisoners,” Avagyan said.
She also reported that preparations for new demonstrations in support of Armenian prisoners are underway.
“The protest was attended by Sjúrður Skaale, a pro-Armenian member of the Danish parliament, who believes the value systems of Armenia and Denmark align. The member of parliament recently gave a long speech in parliament, addressing issues related to Artsakh and the Armenian Genocide. We strive to address all concerns that matter to us, and we do everything within our power. Preparations for new demonstrations are currently underway, and we hope that we will be able to help our prisoners,” Avagyan concluded.
