France becomes the first EU country to ban social networks for those under 15

Deputies of the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) and the Senate (upper house of parliament) of France supported the bill banning the use of social networks for children under 15 years old.

Thus, France became the first country in the European Union to adopt this measure. According to the adopted bill, starting September 1, children under 15 will be banned from creating new accounts on TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and other social networks, and existing accounts will be closed from January 2027.

The restrictions may come into force at the beginning of the new school year in September. It is expected that after approval by the National Assembly and the Senate, the law will be signed by President Emmanuel Macron.
