Galuzin calls EU’s promises to Armenia “ephemeral”

The European Commission’s refusal to confirm specific timelines for introducing a visa-free regime with Armenia shows the ephemeral nature of Brussels’ promises about the republic’s “European future.” This was stated to Izvestia by Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia.

“For example, quite recently, the European Commission essentially and directly refuted Nikol Pashinyan’s statements about achieving visa liberalization by 2029. This underscores the sheer ephemerality of the promises of a ‘wonderful European future’ and the utilitarian way Brussels perceives the Armenian state,” the diplomat said.

According to him, Moscow believes that European countries view Armenia primarily through the lens of their own economic and political interests.

“In their ‘wards,’ the Europeans see only a source of resources and labor, as well as a fully deindustrialized market for their own goods and services, including in the area of security, for which one has to pay dearly in every sense,” Galuzin added.
