His Holiness Karekin II receives Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti

On February 19, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, received Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

During the meeting, His Holiness recalled the years of Cardinal Gugerotti’s service as Apostolic Nuncio to Armenia and his warm attitude toward the Mother See. The Armenian Patriarch commended Cardinal Gugerotti for his contribution to Armenian studies.

The Armenian Patriarch commended the fraternal cooperation between the Armenian Apostolic and Roman Catholic Churches. His Holiness shared his concerns with Cardinal Gugerotti regarding the difficult situation in the region and the security challenges facing Armenia.

The sides also discussed problems related to the life of Christian communities in the Middle East. They underscored the importance of the joint efforts of the Christian churches to establish peace and solidarity in the life of humanity.

At the end of the meeting, the Catholicos of All Armenians conveyed his fraternal good wishes to Pope Francis.
