The International Committee of the Red Cross is ready to act as a neutral mediator on the issue of visiting Armenians held in Azerbaijan, Zara Amatuni, head of communication and public relations programs at the ICRC’s mission in Armenia, told Sputnik Armenia.
“Should there be a request and agreement among the parties involved, the ICRC, within the scope of its mission, is ready to act as a neutral mediator,” she noted.
The ICRC is currently continuing its dialogue with Baku on relevant issues, in particular those concerning missing and detained persons. However, due to the absence of an ICRC mission in Azerbaijan, the dialogue is being conducted at the level of the committee’s headquarters, Amatuni added.
As a reminder, on July 8, Veronika Zonabend, wife of Ruben Vardanyan, Artsakh’s former state minister who is being held in a Baku prison, addressed an open letter to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. She stated her intention to travel to Baku as part of an international women’s humanitarian delegation.
