In the jaws of Turkey and Azerbaijan: Saghatelyan calls withdrawal of Russian base a ruinous gamble for Armenia

Ishkhan Saghatelyan, MP from the National Assembly’s “Armenia” faction and representative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Bureau, stated that the withdrawal of the Russian military base is a new gamble for Armenia.

“We believe that this base serves a mission in the Republic of Armenia, and leaving Armenia defenseless in the jaws of Turkey and Azerbaijan under the current geopolitical situation is a gamble for the Republic of Armenia,” he said, adding that this would lead to new security threats.

“This gamble cannot be undertaken, just as the process of withdrawing from the EAEU cannot be undertaken,” he stated.

According to Saghatelyan, withdrawal from the EAEU will not lead to EU membership, and withdrawal from the CSTO will not lead to NATO accession.
