Iran sends letter to UN over Trump’s threats

Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran’s Chargé d’Affaires at the UN, has sent an official letter to Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, and the President of the Security Council. The letter was prompted by harsh statements by Donald Trump, President of the US, made from the podium of the General Assembly, IRNA reports.

The Iranian diplomat’s letter stresses that the public threats of destruction made on September 22, 2026, during the American leader’s speech at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly against Iran, a founding state of the UN, go beyond political rhetoric and constitute a direct violation of international law and the UN Charter.

“Systemic nature of the threats: Tehran points out that such statements are not an isolated case but a continuation of a line of public pressure by the head of a state that is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, which bears primary responsibility for maintaining international peace.

Undermining the authority of the UN: Using the General Assembly podium to threaten the destruction of an entire nation and state discredits the UN as an institution and undermines the foundations of international security.

Right to self-defense: The document notes that any rhetorical or forceful attempts at aggression against Iran will meet decisive resistance from its people and armed forces. Tehran officially reserves its inalienable right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” the letter said.
