‘It is a legal absurdity’: Aram Vardevanyan on situation around Samvel Karapetyan

During a press conference, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan described the arrest of philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan in Armenia as a legal absurdity. However, according to him, this absurdity has a legal foundation.

“We all remember how it started. We saw how the executive branch in Facebook posted statements against Samvel Karapetyan. And from that moment we had direct factual evidence of political persecution,” the lawyer said.

“The petition submitted to the court literally states that the actions voiced by Samvel Karapetyan were preceded by events, namely the position of Armenia’s executive power on replacing the Catholicos of All Armenians. This is absurd, but we have what we have,” Vardevanyan added.
