It is important for Trump that his words be ultimately realized in peace agreement – Svetlana Zhurova

Speaking with Alpha News, First Deputy Chairperson of Russia’s State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova commented on the suspension of US military aid to Ukraine.

“The thing is that only a peace agreement and direct talks will bring us closer to peace. We have several points that need to be negotiated. This is a meeting between Putin and Trump and, accordingly, certain agreements. Then I believe that, most likely, there should be some kind of meeting. It should be initiated by European politicians. They should also meet in some format with Putin and talk. Because without Europe, it is probably impossible for a peace agreement to be fully drawn up and adopted. And, then, of course, with Ukraine. Then we can sit down at the negotiating table. What is important here is an agreement between Russia and Ukraine, but without influence, including the American and European.

Ukraine will not sign anything, unfortunately, they are not independent, although they could be. But since the situation is like this and they were provided with military support both by America and Europe, then the cessation of funding from at least one side will force them to sit down at the negotiating table. This is an important function that Trump is now trying to fulfill. He promised, he wants to keep his word, and they say correctly that he does not want to fail, because it is important for him that his words be ultimately realized in a peace agreement, in his understanding. He promised this, he said it publicly. He must keep his word, as he himself believes, and then it will be a success for him. So let’s see how it all goes,” Zhurova said.

According to the MP, Putin very clearly outlined everything to Trump regarding the peace agreement with Ukraine.

“Trump, for his part, does not see any other way to force Ukraine to do this, because Russia has outlined all its positions. Our president has already expressed everything to everyone, including Trump. Probably, Trump was sent some more documents proving the Nazi orientation of this war, which Ukraine has turned it into. Trump hardly wants to be a mediator and, say, a financier of those Nazi things that happened in Ukraine. I do not think that America wants to be a participant in this process. Vladimir Vladimirovich once again very clearly explained and outlined all this to Trump, because it was useless to outline it to former US President Biden. He did not want to hear it, but Trump heard it. For him, this is apparently of serious importance,” Zhurova concluded.
