It is shortsighted to abandon the existing security system without having alternatives: Samvel Karapetyan

Samvel Karapetyan, Leader of the Strong Armenia party, explained in an interview with 24news. am his earlier remarks about the possible withdrawal of Russia’s 102nd military base from Armenia, noting that, in his view, it is shortsighted to abandon the existing security system without having any alternatives.

Earlier, speaking with journalists outside the Anti-Corruption Court building, he said that Armenia would become “ownerless” in the region if the Russian military base were withdrawn.

“The state will not remain ownerless. Armenia has an owner — the people of Armenia. But Armenia’s security will be called into question, since the Russian military base is considered a component of the security system,” Karapetyan noted.

According to him, it is shortsighted to abandon the existing security system without even having proposals to replace it. Karapetyan added that there are very few countries in the world that do not need security guarantees.
