The return of the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide to the agenda by Israel, even if driven by geopolitical reasons, is a highly important step, since it keeps the theme of historical justice at the center of international attention once again. This was stated to Alpha News by Nzhdeh Garagavoryan, a member of the ARF.

“Even if the motive was geopolitical tension between Turkey and Israel, it is still very important to discuss the issue of the Armenian Genocide again and to bring it back onto the international political agenda,” he said.

According to Garagavoryan, the issue of the Armenian Genocide is today often used as a geopolitical or domestic political tool, but this does not change its historical basis. In his view, Armenia’s authorities are trying to reduce the presence of the Armenian Genocide issue on the international political agenda, while events in Israel demonstrate the opposite trend.

“Both in the case of the Armenian Genocide and on the issue of Artsakh, geopolitical interests can influence processes, but they must always be grounded in historical truth and the demand for justice,” the ARF member stressed.
