Konstantin Zatulin: The Armenian authorities are trying to reshape the consciousness of the Armenian people, and they succeed in it

The Armenian authorities are trying to reshape not just the foreign policy of the country; they want to reshape the consciousness of the Armenian people, Konstantin Zatulin, the first deputy chair of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, told Alpha News.

“Today it is already self-evident; if you listen to Pashinyan and members of his team, then Russia is no longer an ally. They are moving away from an alliance with Russia. There is no alliance with Russia, and there is no need for it. They are trying to reshape not just the foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia or block the Mir cards (Russian payment cards, ed.) in the country; they want to reshape the consciousness of the Armenian people, and, I must say, they are succeeding a lot,” Zatulin emphasized.

According to him, the Armenian government, which surrendered Nagorno-Karabakh, declares that Russia is solely to blame for what happened.

“Surprising but true. The only thing that can be opposed to the official policy is the people and popular resistance. If the Armenians in Armenia have doubts that this friendship with Russia is significant for them, then, of course, it is impossible to stop it. But what if the Armenian government, in agreement with its people, expects protection not from Russia but from France and the USA, while not intending to do anything to save itself?

In the case of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian government itself became the initiator of failure, defeat in the war. Because they did not do any real work to protect their compatriots in Karabakh. It is impossible to defend Nagorno-Karabakh from the outside if Armenia itself, represented by its government, refuses it,” he added.
