Russia needs certain assurances from Armenian partners in connection with the accession to the ICC before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possible visit to Armenia, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti.

“We have already said that certainly the new reality related to Armenia’s accession to this international statute cannot but have a negative impact on our bilateral relations. Of course, it is very important to receive certain assurances from our Armenian partners. This issue is yet to be resolved within the bilateral dialogue, which is what we are determined to do,” Peskov told reporters.

Armenia formally joined the International Criminal Court on February 1 after ratifying the Rome Statute of the ICC in early October 2023.
Russia has repeatedly expressed disapproval of Armenia’s plans to ratify the document.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry source told RIA Novosti that Moscow considers official Yerevan’s plans to accede to the Rome Statute to be unacceptable against the background of the court’s illegal “warrants” against the Russian leadership. Russia warned Armenia of negative consequences for bilateral relations.
