Macron commended Armenia for its readiness to leave Russia’s orbit, says German political scientist

Speaking with Alpha News, German political scientist Alexander Rahr commented on the statement of French President Emanuel Macron that Armenia’s accession to the Rome Statute is courageous.

According to Rahr, all efforts of the European Union are aimed at destroying the Russian economy.

“You just need to understand that all the efforts of the leaders of the European Union are aimed at destroying the Russian economy so that Russia cannot wage a war in Ukraine. We also see personal attacks on Vladimir Putin, which are made in order to isolate him, humiliate him and create a very uncomfortable environment for him in the world.

And the French President simply voiced what the head of the German government, Olaf Scholz, and other leaders of the European Union countries thought. With this gesture, Emanuel Macron commended Armenia for its readiness to leave Russia’s orbit by joining the Rome Statute. Both France and Germany will do their best to encourage Armenia to continue to take such steps.

How much all this will really fit into the plans of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashanyan is a big question. I personally doubt it. I think that Armenia will maneuver between Russia and the West, as it has been doing quite successfully over the past 30 years,” Rahr said.
