Militants working in Ukraine’s interests detained in Iraq

Qasim al-Abudi, national security advisor to the Iraqi prime minister, announced the detention of militants who, according to authorities, were acting in Ukraine’s interests, Dijlah TV reports. The official declined to disclose the list of facilities that had been attacked.

According to al-Abudi, one of the intelligence groups analyzing data concluded that there was Ukrainian involvement in Iraq. He also said that groups that had shelled facilities on the country’s territory had been detained, and during the investigation they admitted to working in Ukraine’s interests. “We detained several groups that shelled a number of facilities on Iraqi territory. During the investigation, they admitted that they are working in Ukraine’s interests,” he said.

Al-Abudi’s statement came amid worsening relations between Iraq and Ukraine, which had previously been accused of involvement in a number of incidents in the Middle East, including an attack on an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea.
