At a decisive stage of the election campaign, anticipating its imminent defeat and no longer limiting itself to open calls for violence against political opponents, the current regime has moved to overtly unlawful and heavy-handed repression. This is stated in a declaration by the national-civic union HayaQve.

“In particular, Nikol Pashinyan, currently on leave and holding no official authority, directly ordered the NSS of the Republic of Armenia at a campaign rally on May 20 to initiate criminal proceedings against Andranik Tevanian, Chairman of the ‘Mother Armenia’ party and second on the electoral list of the ‘Prosperous Armenia’ party. This constitutes one of the most egregious violations of electoral freedom and fairness in the history of the Republic of Armenia and openly calls into question the ability of the Armenian authorities to hold free and fair elections.

The national-civic union HayaQve strongly condemns this crude attempt at political retribution and states that the head of the regime is flagrantly abusing his official position, thereby undermining the legitimacy of the entire electoral process.

We call upon law enforcement agencies, the courts, and the Central Electoral Commission not to yield to the obvious unlawful and anti-state pressure of the current regime, and to administer justice in strict accordance with the requirements of the Constitution and the law.

We also call upon the CEC to annul, on the grounds of gross abuse of official authority and incitement to violence, the participation of acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the 2026 parliamentary elections as a candidate on the proportional list of the ‘Civil Contract’ party,” the statement reads.
