Nobody will try to talk Yerevan into staying in the EAEU: Dmitry Peskov
May 27 2026, 16:43
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, stated that Armenia has set a course toward European integration, which contradicts its membership in the EAEU. The law that has been adopted obligates the country to orient itself toward the EU, yet the dividends from EAEU membership are clear, stable GDP growth of several percentage points annually. The decision on the path forward must be made by Armenian society.
Dmitry Peskov stressed that the question of a possible termination of the gas agreement is corporate in nature and should be discussed with Gazprom. He also noted that the privileges granted to Armenia represent Russia’s contribution.
According to the press secretary, nobody will try to talk Yerevan into staying in the EAEU, but clarifications are necessary. Meanwhile, a separate meeting between Vladimir Putin and Nikol Pashinyan is not planned in the near future, and Armenia’s participation in the EAEU summit will continue, though the current session will not determine its fate.
