Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Denis Denisov commented on the prospects of Armenian-Russian relations and the statements of the president of the Armenian parliament.

“There are no prerequisites yet to believe that relations between Armenia and Russia will be sharply intensified or destroyed. It is predetermined by fate that countries cannot change their location, so it would be nice to turn this page of escalation and misunderstanding as soon as possible. For this, a number of prerequisites and political will from both sides are necessary. And this means a change in political elites, because bilateral criticism is often simply baseless and does not lead to a constructive dialogue. However, economic incentives and factors will not completely nullify Russian-Armenian relations, as many would like,” Denisov said.

The expert noted that a number of representatives of the Armenian political elite are not acting in the interests of Armenia.

“Let’s just think logically about why Russian troops are there. Do they have nothing better to do at home, or maybe it is better to remember why they appeared there and for what reasons? A number of representatives of the Armenian political elite often make their statements and take actions not logically and not in the interests of Armenia, but simply with regard to the political situation,” Denisov said.
