The “Armenia” bloc regards the latest arrest of Robert Kocharyan, second President of the Republic of Armenia, as classic political persecution, linking it to regional developments and possible demands from Baku. This was stated at a press conference by Agnesa Khamoyan, deputy of the “Armenia” faction.
According to her, a backdrop of new geopolitical and economic tension has formed in the country, accompanied by worsening Armenian-Russian relations.
“The current authorities are trying to neutralize possible opposition centers. Pashinyan needs to break the axis of resistance that President Kocharyan would form with the ‘Armenia’ bloc,” Khamoyan noted, adding that the latest arrest of the second president is also aimed at breaking this resistance.
