On June 27, World Refugee Day, on the joint initiative of UNHCR and Corporación América, a photo exhibition “Hope Away from Home” about the Armenian population of Artsakh forcibly displaced by Azerbaijan was held at Carrasco International Airport, Montevideo, Uruguay, and Jorge Newbery Airport in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The exhibition, held in Argentina, was attended by Armenian Ambassador Hovhannes Virabyan and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Osvaldo Laport, as well as UNHCR Regional Representative for South America Karmen Sakhr.

“This joint event between airports of the Corporación América is an example of how the private sector can play a crucial role in raising awareness and promoting solidarity. In a divided world, the Argentine tradition of welcoming those in need is the oasis of humanity in the desert of indifference,” Karmen Sakhr said.

Martín Eurnekian, the President of Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, spoke about the situation of the Armenian population of Artsakh, forcibly displaced by Azerbaijan, and stated that these photos are not only works of art depicting moments of everyday life but also silent witnesses to the courage, dignity, and resistance of millions of people.

“We are deeply committed to the cause of refugees and displaced persons, and that is why today we reaffirm our support for UNHCR and all initiatives that seek to improve the lives of those who have lost everything,” Eurnekian said.
