If you don’t remember the past, you have no future — The People Speak

As part of The People Speak project, Alpha News conducted a survey in Yerevan as well as in Armenian-populated communities in the United States and Russia to gather citizens’ opinions on the most pressing issues of recent times.

“A Turk remains a Turk,” say the respondents, dismissing the possibility of friendship with Turkey.

Another citizen remarks, “There is no word for ‘peace’ in Turkish, there is a word for ‘reconciliation’, meaning to agree on something. It is a matter of linguistic thinking and says a lot about the nation.”

According to one of the citizens, one should have constructive relations with neighbors but at the same time not forget about the past: “If you don’t remember the past, you have no future.”

Speaking about the current security situation in Armenia, citizens sadly note that there is almost no security.

“I feel pain every time I hear that we gave away a piece of land,” says one of the respondents.

“Is there any security in Armenia at all? I don’t see it,” another citizen questions.

Many respondents identify key priorities, including strengthening the army, acknowledging past mistakes, and forging a path forward.
