As part of The People Speak project, Alpha News conducted a survey in Yerevan as well as in Armenian-populated communities in the United States and Russia to gather citizens’ opinions on the most pressing issues of recent times.
“A Turk remains a Turk. If they don’t love Armenians, why should we love them? If you talk to a Turk, keep a stick close,” say the survey participants, ruling out the possibility of friendship with Turkey.
Another citizen notes, “No Armenian believes in Armenian-Turkish friendship. And first of all, the Turks themselves don’t want it. That’s why I don’t believe in it.”
According to one of the citizens, it is impossible to forget the Genocide and befriend the enemy. “They caused the Armenian people to scatter across the world, barely surviving.”
Speaking about Armenia’s European integration, one citizen noted, “You can go to Europe for leisure and return, but it is impossible to live among them. We have our own path, our own way of thinking, our own attitude—there is no need to integrate into Europe.”
