Prices expected to rise

The dynamics of the consumer price index in Armenia, external signals and current events suggest that price increases are likely to occur again soon. In February 2025, 12-month inflation accelerated to 2.5%, with food rising by 4.5% and the cost of cigarettes and alcohol increasing by 3.4%. Health care, education and transportation costs saw even more significant growth. Prices for clothing and footwear declined. However, the overall aggregate index experienced an acceleration.
Comparative analysis reveals that Armenia had the highest rate of price growth in January among EAEU countries, both for consumer goods and food products.
These developments, driven by external factors, appear to lay the groundwork for a new wave of inflation in the future. Incidentally, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the FAO Food Price Index rose by 8.2% over the past twelve months as of February. This growth was mainly due to the increase in the cost of certain commodity groups, such as sugar, vegetable oils, butter, and cereals.
