Untold Story — Admiral Isakov: Between Life and Death

May 18 2025, 14:00

Alpha Media House, in cooperation with the Heritage and Progress Foundation and the Armenian Studies Development and Support Foundation “ANIV,” launches a historical podcast titled Untold Story.

The Untold Story podcast explores the lives and achievements of prominent figures from the Armenian nation. The project is based on verified historical sources, including archival records, memoirs, and recollections.

The second episode explores the life of a man who refused to let the loss of a leg hinder his service to his homeland. Admiral Ivan Isakov (Hovhannes Ter-Isahakyan) was not only revered by his comrades but also earned the respect of the country’s highest leadership for his courage and resilience.

You will learn about the dramatic events of the summer of 1942, when the Soviet troops were defending the Caucasus and Admiral Isakov was on the front line. What happened on October 4 near Tuapse? How did the USSR’s best doctors battle for two months to save the admiral’s life? And how the wounded admiral continued to lead the fleet, despite the loss of a leg?

Andrei Maksimchik, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Research Associate at the Foundation for Development and Support of Armenian Studies “ANIV,” as well as co-author of the book “Admiral Isakov,” joins Kristina Yermak to discuss unknown chapters and fateful episodes in Ivan Isakov’s biography.
