‘Proud to be first Armenian woman in WTA Top 40’: Elina Avanesyan

Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan shared her success on social media.

“First WTA500 semifinal. Didn’t get to give my 100% due to injury, but I fought till the end. Reached my career-high ranking and proud to be the first Armenian woman in the WTA Top 40—an achievement that means so much to me. Grateful for the journey, motivated for what’s ahead,” Avanesyan said after her semifinal loss at WTA Mérida Open.

On March 5, Elina will compete at Indian Wells, and in the Round of 128, she will face Lauren Davis, whom she defeated in her first match under the Armenian flag at the Cincinnati Open.
