Report against Samvel Karapetyan was submitted personally by Prosecutor General – Aram Vardevanyan

Based on a press release, a report against philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan was submitted by the Prosecutor General of Armenia, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan announced during a press conference on Wednesday.

“The report was submitted personally by Armenia’s Prosecutor General, which was followed by the raid of Samvel Karapetyan’s residence by hundreds of law enforcement officers. After that, the arrest warrant was revoked, and Karapetyan was free for about an hour. Then he was re-arrested under the pretext of filing a motion for detention. In these circumstances, the public witnessed that Samvel Karapetyan voluntarily appeared. The court believed that there was a risk of him fleeing,” the lawyer said.

He noted that the case concerns an alleged medium-gravity offense. According to Vardevanyan, this situation is unprecedented even by international standards.

“An alleged medium-gravity offense against a person listed in Forbes, a philanthropist, respected in Armenia—this is unprecedented,” he said.
