Russia distinguishes between Armenian people and Armenian authorities — Vigen Hakobyan

On April 24, the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Western press largely ignored the topic. In contrast, the Russian press was filled with coverage of the tragedy that befell the Armenian people. Alpha News sought an explanation from political strategist Vigen Hakobyan.
“At a minimum, it is worth paying attention to two important elements. Firstly, the geopolitical situation is changing, including the regional situation. The processes unfolding in the world, where the main players are the United States and Russia, to some extent influence Russia’s regional policy,” the political strategist noted.
According to Hakobyan, Russia is now focusing on the region and attempting to restore order.
“Before the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in 2022, Turkey’s role for Russia had increased. Now, Russia probably believes that it is necessary to gradually engage with the region and restore order. This is big politics, and claiming that it is anti-Turkish or pro-Armenian is a thankless task, because world politics, especially geopolitics, is purely pragmatic and based on rationalism.
There is also a certain pro-Armenian position, and it seems that official representatives of Moscow make a distinction between the concepts of ‘government’ and ‘people’ of Armenia,” Vigen Hakobyan noted.
