Samvel Shahramanyan signs decree on prolonging powers of Artsakh National Assembly
February 13 2025, 14:54

Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree on prolonging the powers of the Artsakh National Assembly. The Artsakh National Assembly confirmed this to Alpha News agency.
It is based on the constitutional norm that elections cannot be held during the state of emergency. The powers of the Parliament of the Republic of Artsakh expire in May 2025. Otherwise, either new elections would have to be held or the parliament would have to be dissolved, which, by the way, is the demand of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The Armenian government is also in favor of this, considering that the state institutions of the Republic of Artsakh pose a threat to the security of the Republic of Armenia. Of course, this does not mean that the Artsakh parliament will be active, but by preserving the legal framework, political tasks will be solved so that the Artsakh issue will not be closed, and in case of favorable geopolitical developments, they will have the opportunity to implement their mandates.
