The Scientific Library of the Russian city of Arkhangelsk will host a screening of films by the famous Armenian film director, screenwriter and artist Sergei Parajanov. The screening is timed with Parajanov’s 100th anniversary.

On January 15, the audience will watch one of the main works of the director, “The Color of Pomegranates” (1968).

“It belongs to those films that don’t look like anything. This is not a film at all, but a separate work of art—an audiovisual masterpiece, poetry on the screen. The film is based on the life story of mysterious Armenian poet Sayat-Nova. With the help of visual images, Parajanov expresses the spiritual world of the poet, the story of his love, attitude toward religion, government and people,” the Arkhangelsk library said in its review.

On January 22, the art film “The Legend of Suram Fortress” (1984), based on a Georgian folktale, will be shown to the audience.

The screening of the romantic drama “Ashik Kerib” (1988), based on the short story of the same name by Mikhail Lermontov, will take place on January 29.
