All those countries that understood the importance of Syria in the geopolitical processes in the Middle East will now try to take their share, Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan told Alpha News.

“In December, the Syrian Arab Republic ‘ended’. The Syrian state no longer exists, now only the outer shell remains, but in its content it is not a separate state unit. All those countries that understood the importance of Syria in the geopolitical processes in the Middle East will now try to take or get their share. The countries involved in the process are not limited to Turkey, Israel or Iran. The Persian Gulf countries, larger players, such as China, are involved here,” he noted.

According to Geghamyan, it is possible that small republics or other state units will emerge on the territory of the former state of Syria.

“What is happening now naturally leads to the collapse of the previously existing unified system, since everyone will try to grab their own, and that is why they are so irreconcilable with each other. It is obvious that Syria’s former territory will be divided into zones of influence or small republics and state units will emerge there,” Varuzhan Geghamyan said.
