Statement by the Armenia bloc on the pretrial measure imposed on National Assembly deputy Artur Sargsyan remaining unchanged

The Armenia bloc has issued a statement regarding the pretrial measure imposed on National Assembly deputy Artur Sargsyan remaining unchanged.
“On July 30, 2026, the court rejected the lawyers’ motion to lift the pretrial measure of house arrest imposed on Artur Sargsyan, deputy of the 8th and 9th convocations of the National Assembly. Without any substantiated legal grounds, and in blatant contradiction with the Constitutional Court’s decision of December 7, 2021, the court extended the pretrial measure against Artur Sargsyan for another month.
Thus, a deputy elected by the people has been deprived of the ability to freely carry out his constitutional duties. This is a gross violation not only of the rights of an individual deputy, but also of the full functioning of the National Assembly, as well as of the expression of will and the electoral rights of thousands of citizens.
Therefore, the Armenia bloc declares:
- Artur Sargsyan is a political hostage. The purpose of the political persecution carried out against him is to paralyze his work as a deputy, silence the voice of the opposition, and continue the political reprisal;
- Artur Sargsyan, like all those accused in the “18 righteous” case, as well as all political prisoners, must be immediately released;
- We will convey our protest/alarm signal regarding this unprecedented violation of the law and of constitutionality to our international partners, expecting an appropriate assessment from them,” the bloc’s statement said.
