During the election campaign in the city of Vayk in the Vayots Dzor region, Robert Kocharyan, second President of Armenia and candidate for Prime Minister from the “Armenia” bloc, commented on the foreign policy being pursued by the authorities and outlined the key principles every country should follow in this area.
“First and foremost, it must serve the interests of the state, both in terms of security and in economic terms. Foreign policy has no other purpose. It is necessary to assess the risks and understand how to neutralize them. And to strengthen security, one must acquire friends. This is one of the components of foreign policy,” the second president said.
According to Kocharyan, Russia is the only country capable of balancing Turkey’s influence in the region.
“But this government is doing everything it can to damage relations with Russia. Yet Russia is a balancing force not only in terms of security, it is also our main partner in economic terms. Now Russia is urging you to come to your senses, not to do this. And I say the same: stop, it is not you who will pay this price, but the Armenian people,” the president emphasized.
