A sovereign Armenia is our highest value, but the ARF Dashnaktsutyun considers the authorities’ anti-national policy, violations of democratic norms, and political persecution, especially against the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Catholicos of All Armenians, and political prisoners, unacceptable. This was stated live on Alpha News by Levon Baronian, representative of the Western United States Central Committee of the ARF.

Commenting on domestic political developments in Armenia and attempts to summon the Catholicos of All Armenians to court, Baronian emphasized that this constitutes unlawful state interference in the Church’s internal affairs.

“This move by the authorities is yet another, and perhaps the most flagrant, violation of the Constitution. Armenia’s basic law not only recognizes the special status of the Armenian Apostolic Church but also prohibits state interference in the internal affairs of religious organizations,” the Western United States ARF Central Committee representative emphasized.

Baronian also noted that the actions of Armenia’s authorities were sharply condemned both by the ARF Bureau and by Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, as well as by the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), which called for restraint from interference in the AAC’s internal decisions.
