There are about 500 to 600 Armenians living in Luxembourg, who mainly work in audit firms and the banking sector, since Luxembourg is a major financial hub, Tatev Manukyan, the President of the Armenia-Luxembourg Association, said in an interview with Alpha News.
“In Luxembourg, the minimum wage is 2,000 euros for unqualified workers and 2,700 euros for qualified workers. Most arrive from Armenia with their families, as they are highly skilled professionals who have already been hired,” Tatev Manukyan noted.
Discussing the challenge of language preservation, the President of the Armenia-Luxembourg Association highlighted that despite the community’s small size, a school exists where children learn not only the Armenian language but also Armenian culture and music.
“We have a choir where we sing traditional Armenian songs. It is safe to say that we are making our contribution to this community. Of course, we don’t have a church yet, but we organize one or two liturgies a year, mostly dedicated to April 24,” Tatev Manukyan emphasized.
Speaking about the involvement of Armenians in the political sphere of Luxembourg, Tatev Manukyan said:
“Since our community is young and very small, we don’t have any achievements in the political sphere yet. I am the first Armenian to participate in the elections to the municipal council and parliament of Luxembourg, and I am also involved in local political parties. Not a single member of the community is cut off from Armenia, we actively follow the events taking place in the country. The agenda of our community includes the activation of cultural life and increased involvement in the political sphere. Both of these issues are only a matter of time.”
