Discussion of the candidacy for speaker of parliament is continuing in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Representatives of the authorities and the opposition continue to speak, after which a vote will be held.

Only one candidacy has been put forward for the post of speaker of the National Assembly – Ruben Rubinyan, member of the Civil Contract party, who served as vice-speaker of the National Assembly in the previous parliament.

Anna Grigoryan, head of the opposition parliamentary faction Armenia, stated that their faction will not take part in the closed-ballot vote for speaker of the National Assembly.

Aram Vardevanyan is the Strong Armenia faction’s candidate for the post of vice-speaker of the National Assembly. Under the law, one of the three vice-speaker positions, as well as the chairmanships of the four standing committees, are allocated to the opposition.
