The commission operations mechanism functions even with staff shortages: Armenia’s CEC

Vahе Hovakimyan, head of the CEC, reported that isolated cases of commission members being absent were recorded at the opening of polling stations.

According to him, by 8:00 a.m., 50 commission members were absent from 48 out of 2,005 stations. In three cases, these were senior staff: two chairpersons and one secretary who had been detained overnight.

Hovakimyan emphasized that the current Electoral Code provides mechanisms that allow commissions to continue operating even under such circumstances.
