The European Union will use its civilian mission in Armenia to attempt to influence the outcome of the parliamentary elections, Maria Zakharova, official spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a briefing.

“Under the pretext of tracking illegal financial flows and countering cyberattacks, information manipulation, and information interference by third countries, the EU will attempt to interfere in Armenia’s internal affairs and, given what we know about the European Union, one cannot rule out in any way that they will seek to influence the outcome of the July 7 parliamentary elections,” Zakharova said.

She added that the EU’s new mechanism will provide Brussels with additional leverage over Armenian ministries and national institutions.
