US and Iran preparing for new round of confrontation: Oleg Blokhin

Oleg Blokhin, Russian expert, commented to Alpha News on the situation surrounding the confrontation between the US and Iran.

According to the expert, both sides are currently using the pause in the confrontation to rebuild their military resources and prepare for a new round of conflict.

“Right now there is a major pause, which both sides are using to prepare for the next round of confrontation. Both sides are replenishing their ammunition stocks, which had been depleted, and rebuilding destroyed facilities. In addition to their military preparations, the Americans are trying, through maximum strengthening of sanctions that carry economic consequences for Iran, to stir up protests in the country again, which, according to their plan, are meant to become the decisive factor in the fall of Iran’s current government,” Oleg Blokhin said.

According to the expert, Iran is also rebuilding its resources and strengthening its cooperation with the Houthis, and the resumption of direct confrontation with the US remains a matter of time.

“Iran is hastily rebuilding its damaged or expended resources, trying to keep its economy afloat, and has additionally actively joined in helping the Houthis, who have taken control of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and have begun serious pressure on the Saudis. The resumption of conflict is a matter of time. The only thing that could stop it is Trump’s defeat in the midterm elections, after which both the Senate and Congress would block all his initiatives on the Middle East. It’s possible that Trump will try to launch a campaign before that happens,” Blokhin concluded.
