US Congress pushes for release of Armenian POWs held by Azerbaijan

An amendment calling on Azerbaijan to immediately release all Armenian prisoners of war and political prisoners proceeds to full committee vote in the US House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The initiative was introduced by Brad Sherman, Armenian Caucus Vice-Chair Congressman, backed by the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA). The amendment also received support from Brian Mast, Republican Committee Chair.

“It is the sense of Congress that Azerbaijan should immediately and unconditionally release all Armenian prisoners of war and political prisoners,” reads the amendment to the House Foreign Service Act (H.R.9086).
